DROPSHIPPING

Dropshipping in India for Beginners: Everything You Need to Know

By Nishkarsh Sharma

I am not going to give you textbook knowledge about dropshipping. This is the actual process I used to build a dropshipping business that has crossed 90 crore in revenue. My students have done over 100 crore combined.

If you are a beginner trying to figure out dropshipping in India, this is the guide I wish I had when I started. We are going to cover everything: how the model works, how to research products, how to build your store, which supplier to use, how to run ads, how to manage operations, and what kind of profits are actually realistic.

How dropshipping India actually works

The model is simple. You build an online store. You list physical products on it. You do not own those products or store them anywhere. A supplier does.

When a customer buys from you, say at 1000 rupees, you pass the order to your supplier and pay them 500. The supplier ships the product directly to the customer. You keep the 500 in the middle. No inventory. No warehouse. No factory. No minimum order quantity.

The supplier for dropshipping in India is not just any supplier. It needs to be a dropshipping-specific supplier who ships single units on demand. Buying in bulk from a manufacturer is a different business. This is different.

Why product research is the most important thing

Most beginners lose money for one reason: they pick random products. They think of something that seems interesting to them and they start trying to sell it. That is the wrong approach.

What you want to sell are products that are already proven. Products that are already working for someone else in the market right now. The logic is simple. If 100 dropshippers are selling a product and making money, the chances of it working for you are much higher than testing something nobody has tried.

So how do you find these products? You spy on what is already running.

The product research method that actually works

The tool I use personally is Minea. It is an ad spy tool. It shows you thousands of Facebook and Instagram ads that are currently live, sorted by engagement.

Here is how to use it for dropshipping in India for beginners. Go to Minea, click on Ads, filter the country to India, sort by most likes. You will see which products are getting the most engagement right now. High likes on an ad means that ad is spending money and getting returns. Dropshippers do not run unprofitable ads for long.

Look at the products. You will notice patterns. Religious products do consistently well. Health and wellness gadgets. Car accessories. Home improvement. Kitchen tools. Anything that solves a visible problem tends to convert.

Once you spot a product you like, click into it. See the website selling it. Look at their store design, their product page, how they price it. Go to their collections and sort by best selling. Now you have their winning lineup.

Minea also has a Europe Spy feature. Products exploding in Europe tend to hit India within 6 to 18 months. You can get ahead of trends this way.

Their Products tab lets you filter by winning products, high potential products, or established products all filtered by India as your target audience. Their Success Radar updates every few hours showing you what is selling right now. The tool does in 30 minutes what manual research takes 10 hours to do.

Building your dropshipping store

You do not need to hire a developer. Use Shopify, the most widely used e-commerce platform in the world. I use it. Most of my students use it. There are also cheaper options like Odoo which has a free app, and Hostinger's website builder. All drag and drop. Your store can be ready within a day.

Keep the store clean and focused. A few products, strong images, good product descriptions, and a clear checkout. Do not overcomplicate it.

Which supplier to use for dropshipping in India

The platform I recommend and have seen work consistently is Glowroad (also known as Roposo Clout). Connect it to your Shopify store. When an order comes in, Glowroad gets notified and ships directly to the customer. It is not perfect. No platform is. But for starting out in dropshipping India as a beginner, it is the best integrated option available right now.

Once you find a winning product, the next move is to find a private supplier for that specific product. Private suppliers are manufacturers or distributors who will ship for you without a fancy dashboard. More manual work, but better prices and better delivery rates. Move to private suppliers after you have validated a product.

How to create video ads and run Meta Ads

You need video ads. Images can work but video consistently outperforms in this space.

Use Minea's Creative Finder feature. Enter your product and it pulls up video ads that have already run for that product. Download those videos, edit them slightly, add captions, add your own overlay or text. Use CapCut or any basic editor. Use Canva for thumbnails.

Now go to Meta Ads. Create a Sales campaign. Create 10 ad sets. Each ad set targets a different interest group relevant to your product. If you are selling a massager targeting back pain sufferers, your interests might be back pain, cervical pain, physiotherapy, pain relief, and so on.

In each ad set, put your video creative. Let it run for 7 to 10 days. At the end of that period, you will know which ad sets are profitable. Cut the losers. Scale the winners by duplicating and increasing budget.

Ads are not as complicated as people make them sound. The science is simple: test multiple angles, see what works, scale what does.

Managing returns and operations

Return to Origin, or RTO, is an Indian e-commerce reality. A customer places an order but refuses delivery, gives a wrong address, or is not home. The product comes back to the supplier.

This happens to Amazon too. It happens to every brand. It is an industry problem, not a you problem.

You can reduce RTO by calling customers to confirm their order before dispatch. You can use WhatsApp automation to send tracking updates. You can cancel orders where the address looks incomplete or suspicious. Doing this can bring RTO down from 50 percent to 40 percent. Not perfect, but meaningful.

Your biggest lever for profitability is not RTO management. It is ad performance. If you are spending 100 rupees to acquire a customer and making 300 in profit, your business is healthy. If you reduce that to 80 rupees, you make more without changing anything else.

Focus on your ads first. Then operations.

For scaling, hire a video editor first. Ad creative is the bottleneck. A good part-time video editor for 8,000 to 10,000 rupees a month frees you up to focus on product testing and scaling. After that, hire someone for operations who can make confirmation calls and manage order tracking.

What profits can you realistically expect

My dropshipping business has crossed 90 crore in revenue. Our average profit margins across all years have been 15 to 20 percent.

But I do not want to talk only about my numbers. Let me tell you what students have achieved.

Nivan hit 1 lakh in profit in his first two months. Vishal is doing 1 crore a month in revenue. Before he joined our program, he did not know how to build a website. Ramesh made 4 to 5 lakh profit in his first month.

These are real case studies. We interview them. We publish the numbers. There is no reason to exaggerate when the results speak for themselves.

You will not hit these numbers in week one. What you should aim for is to break even on your first product test, find one winning product within the first 60 days, and then systematically scale. The compounding effect kicks in once you understand the system.

The decision you have to make

Dropshipping in India is a real business. It requires real work. Product research, ad testing, store setup, supplier coordination, operations management. None of it is passive.

What you are building is a skill set. Once you understand how to find products, run ads, and read data, you can scale as far as you want. The ceiling is very high.

You can learn all of this by trial and error. Watch videos, spend money testing, fail, adjust, repeat. That is how I learned. It took years.

Or you can learn from someone who has already figured out what works and what does not, who can review your store and your ads in real time and tell you exactly what to fix.
